Meggitt Training Systems Awarded Six Patents For Bluefire® Weapons

published: 18 Dec 2007
Company Now Holds Exclusive Rights to Technology

ATLANTA - December 18, 2007 Meggitt Training Systems, a world leader in military and law enforcement training, has acquired six patents for its BlueFire wireless weapons technology, giving the company exclusive rights to its state-of-the-art technology, with the final patent issued on Dec. 11.

First introduced in 2003, the BlueFire wireless weapons technology is now governed by six patents, covering many components of the weapons and the associated technologies, including the use of radio frequencies. Any company wanting to use radio frequency in its weapons simulators may have to license the technology from Meggitt.

"Since Meggitt originated wireless weapons technology, our customers have come to rely on us as the company to come to when they want wireless weapons training," said Rich Haddad, president of Meggitt Training Systems. "With these patents, we have solidified our position as a category leader in this growing market."

To date, approximately 2,000 BlueFire weapons have been sold to customers looking for a smart weapon simulator that looks and performs exactly like its live counterpart. BlueFire weapons are wireless with no external components and yet provide instructors with important weapon handling diagnostics and all the feedback features of system controlled weapons.

System controlled weapons provide valuable feedback to the instructor through tethers that provide a high degree of weapon control. In contrast, BlueFire weapons allow the instructor to receive the same feedback without the need for tethers. These weapons are compatible with other FATS system controlled weapons simulators and do not require any system modifications.

BlueFire weapons currently available include Taser.
